Does anyone know who makes and / or sells 500 gallon and larger "lawn" rollers?

500 Gallons??? That's equal to 9 - 55 gallon drums. The thing would be huge, not to mention weigh in excess of 2 tons...

Heavy indeed. Most that I've seen are in the 100 gal range or less...

I made my own. It is 24" in diameter and and 6.5' wide. I filled it with concrete. Its heavy and does a good job. Its made of a piece of 1" thick PVC Green Sewer Pipe and used 3/4" Plywood to make the ends. Used a steel pipe for the axle and just stood it up on end in my yard and filled it.

My neighbor made one out of a old propane tank. The problem with it is although its 7 feet wide because of the rounded ends it only has a 4.5' foot print.

Have you considered building your own??

We just built one that is 4 ft wide and 38" diameter (4' x 10' sheet of steel rolled) It weighs 600lbs dry and can hold 235gal of water which is another ~1900lbs. It does the job and we have less than $300 in it.

I just ran some #'s and at 6ft wide, in order to hold 500gal, it needs to be
46" diameter. Which would require a 12' sheet of steel, which is longer than standard and would add to the cost, as would the 6' wide, unless you can find an old 4' diameter section of pipe somewhere.

My homemade roller is old 24" pipe, 7' long with a 2 7/16" steel shafting center. The pipe holds about 150 gallons of water for a total filled weight of 2200 pounds. I find that this weight seams to do a great job and don't think most people would need more. I find that my 33 hp tractor pulls it well, but if I was to double the weight I think it would have a hard time moving it around to do the job. Something to consider unless you have a larger tractor.

Just something else to consider..
Going with a wider rolller to make it heavier, does not increase the compaction ability of the roller.

A 6ft 24" roller will weigh twice as much as a 3ft 24" roller, but wont compact any better, it will just allow you to get done twice as fast.

The only way to increase ground compaction is to go to a larger diameter.
