/edit - that's supposed to be "repurposed" :(Over in Projects I posted:
I Know this is an old thread, but it had dimensions and thicknesses.

So does anybody have any presently recommended sources for Billboard or any other VERY heavy duty tarps? At least 12 mil thick.

My 2 yr old HF specials (10 mil) (/edit - actually 9 mil) are starting to wear. And I need more. Right now I've about 10 tarps in constant use, most about 10x20, but up to 20' x 40'. I like to lay a big one down in my truck bed, place stuff I'm moving on it, then wrap the tarp around the entire load. Right now I've got a load of library bookshelves to move.

And I don't want them to get wet between Virginia and Mississippi.

Does anyone here use "RE-USED VINYL OUTDOOR BILLBOARDS" as in this link:Billboard Tarps, Tarps, Discount Tarps, Used Billboard Vinyl, Hay Tarps, Pond Liners -- Billboard Tarp Warehouse | Welcome ?

They have vinyl tarps up to 1/3 inch, 35 oz/sq yard, 35 mil thick, which would seem to be ideal for protecting loads on my flatbed. And sizes up to 200' x 200' in 13 mil.

I have used them.I have found them changing out a billboard stopped and asked. They have given me the old ones. the ones I have gotten are large (don't know the size) and are very heavy

I have used those bill board [ tarps ] for many years.

They cost us about $20 per 30 to 40 ft sections.

My dad used to use them to cover large square bale stacks. Not sure where he got them. I'll ask him if I remember next time I'm up there.

Neighbor used them to cover hay. nice and thick. heavly reinforced much better than a standard tarp. You can call up just about any billboard company in town and they will sell them to you. In St louis going rate was 40-$100 depending on size and build type. (the newer kind with pockets that you can slide a pipe into and attach straps to sell for more)

I used them to cover lumber and other materials. I got them free from my sister who got them from the company she paid to do advertising for her business (they were the billboards that had her ads on them).

They were very heavy, and I found them to be stiff and difficult to work with. Perhaps the best thing about them is that they did last a long time, and when they started coming apart, they didn't fray into bits and pieces with blue/gray threads blowing all over the place (like "normal" plastic tarps). They eventually started splitting at the seams (where two sections were spliced).

I guess you can't have it both ways.

You might try calling swimming pool installers....maybe they will give you the old vinyl liners from pools where they put in new liners....

anyone that want's mine can have it. I'll be having mine replaced next yr. Like I said. if you can catch the installers taking down 1 of those billboards , they just might give it to you. that;s how I got the 3-4 that I have

The old liner probably won't be very good. The only time I know of people changing the liner is due to the old one is cracking and/or starting to tear. I've helped change a couple and the old one a lot of times comes out in pieces because it so weak. The sun and chlorine break it down over time.

Billboards I know a few people who use them and love them. One friend of mine used it for a roof to a barn for a year before he replaced it with steel.
