I'm looking at adding heat to my Quonset hut. This year we put up the end walls, but they aren't insulated yet. I plan on adding foam board insulation and plywood over the end walls. I don't want to spray foam the metal ceiling although it'd be a big help. I've seen the foam flake off and it's not pretty.
I was looking at these:Mr. Heater 45K LP Gas Shop Garage Unit Heater | eBay Maybe the 75K btu unit. The Hut is about 800sq ft. 75K would be overkill, but since it's poorly insulated with lots of openings (ie gaps where the rolling doors meet the floor up to 3 inches due to un level floor. We inherited the property, so we also inherited a good load of issues such as that.
Ouellet 10,000 Watt Commercial Fan-Forced Heater, Model# OASU10000T | Electric Heaters | Northern Tool + Equipment. This one matches more closely to the actual per sq ft btu need.
With the huge 75k unit it would cycle a lot less and warm the area much quicker. The smaller electric units I'm afraid would never stop running and would use a lot of energy. With the LP unit I'd be afraid of the cost of gas and signing a contract with a company to deliver it. And how much would all that cost?
I was going to wait to do this next year, but I work outside part to most of the day. Going out to the shop to tinker after work is a little much after dealing with freezing temps all day. Puts a damper on your tinkering. Yeah, I'm a puss.
