Does anybody make hearing protectors that have a notch for my safety glasses side pieces (temples)?

My safety glasses have pretty thick temples and when I put the muffs on, I don't get a good seal right at the front of the ear.

I've never seen such an item. I wear the Peltor Worktunes over my glasses but the temples are pretty thin. No problems. You may have to use the foam, in-ear plugs if your glasses are too bulky.

I do get some minor pressure related pain after a long time but I try to shift them around a bit now and then.

I have the glasses that loop around my ears. Thin and do not cause any problems. I also use ear plugs with the ear muffs. I figure the muffs give me 15 and the plugs give me 15, so I get around 30 decibel drop with the combo.

Yes.. Just about any set of ear muffs made for shooting will have notchouts or clearance for safety goggles. i have some remingtons.. that were 30$ each.. but I've also picked up generic brands from milsurp places.. army/navy / pawn shop and sporting good stores int he 6-15$ range that had clearance for goggles.

"When both a muff and ear plug are worn together, OSHA allows 5 dB to be added to the higher of the two NRR's (refer to Tech Brief 90-03,"

So an ear plug with a NRR of 25, plus an ear muff with a NRR of 20, equals a combined NRR of 30, not 45!

I find the best sound reduction is an ear plug. Goes up to NRR 33. I do notice the difference once the NRR's change by about 2-3, which is consistant with the physiology of the ear. Sopme people will hear a volume difference of about 1, most will hear a dB difference of 2, and most will perceive a 3 dB increase as twice as loud. The dB (deci-Bel) is a logarithmic ratio.

Wow, good information. Thanks. Even 5 dB is a lot.

At work we use 'max lite' ( Howard Leight ).. and they have a NRR of 30.

I use ear muffs from Stihl when using chainsaw as they don't seem to collect quite as much dirt as the plugs, however, I usually use the orange foem ear plugs from Walmart when I'm on the tractor as they are much more comfortable to wear for extended period of time and not a financial burden to replace when they do get dirty or lost.

I believe the Stihl earmuffs are rated at 25db reduction, while the ear plugs from WM are around 30 something.

I also use the plugs to reduce wind and sound noise when riding my two wheeler

The main reason I asked is because I had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago, and the ear plugs were just too painful.
My safety glasses are prescriptions with the heavy plastic frames and they just pushed the ear muffs too far out from my ears.
I'm all better, now. But thanks for all the recommendations.
