Well, today (4-29-09) I went down to the dairy farm to do work like normal. I was given the job to take the hay shredder and shred some hay for bedding for the cows. It seemed simple enough. We hooked up the little JohnDeere 2210 and PTo and I put it a 540 RPMs. I kept adding hay into the hopper and then when I got about 1/4 of the way through the big bale, the shredder started making loud dings and smoking.
I acted fast and turned the tractor off to avoid further damage to the shredder. I opend it up and the screen that the hay clippings went through had got caught on the blades. The shredder spun the screen around at 540 RPMs breaking teeth which fell out of the shredder to where the hay clippings went. The shredder broke a handfull of bolts and 3 teeth came off. The screen had a few little deep scratches in it but is still functionable. Im just glad it wasnt worse.
