Haul tractor in dump trailer

Hey guys, I'm thinking about selling my 20' car trailer and getting a dump trailer, I just think I would use it more for moving dirt/mulch/construction debris and hopefully still be able to move tractor, just looking for people's opinions on size and experience, a 6x12 10k is the size I would like but not certain if it will be long enough, I currently have a mahindra 2538 with backhoe, but probably will be selling in near future and getting brand new xg3140 with backhoe and front loader,

Can the rear gates be pinned open incase I ever wanted to haul tractor with brush hog also, I assume some manufactures may

I’m assuming your going to run a loader, while you can place the loader over the front of the dump in some models it doesn’t work with them all. Adding a backhoe or a cutter is going to make it darn near impossible to load. Even if you could get it to fit, getting the load right on the trailer with no room to move (front to back) is going to make it very difficult.
I would say it would be very difficult to accomplish what you want and you’d probably need a pretty long dump trailer to get it done. Specs on the xg3140 show the bare tractor at over 10’ long, that’s no loader, no hoe/Cutter.

This is all just my opinion. I have a 7x12 12k capacity dump and my 4510 won’t fit right. My 4310 wouldn’t fit.

I’ve considered going to a 20’ dump but even then I have my doubts.

I don’t know how you are going to get a TLB or CUT with FEL and brush hog in a 12’ trailer. Most of the guys who haul their machine in a dump trailer have a skid steer and or mini excavator- not a “long” CUT.

Any machine bigger than my SCUT, probably would only work as a “bare” machine.

For scale it looks like the tractor tires are about the same size as the trailer tires. The 2538 tires are more than waist high.

That trailer is perfect for that machine.

I have a b26tlb and can bring landplain or box blade and multiple buckets but have the loader on the neck. Trailer is a load trail 14' low profile 14,000.

I've got a 6x12 CAM Superline. I can get my Bobcat S185 skid steer in, but just a couple of inches to spare on each side. Also, to have the weight centered over the axles to avoid excessive tongue weight I have to rest the bucket on top of the gate.
Steepness of ramps is also something to consider. My trailer has slide out ramps but they're not super long. Pretty steep and I have to back the machine on because of the rear being heavier. It would go over backward if I tried to drive on.
I didn't do it often, but I disliked it enough that I bought a 21' tilt bed for the machine & attachments.

Picked up a Super Cub Cadet diesel,, with an extra 60" mower deck on Monday,,,

The chains would not go up the steel ramps,,
we had to remove the chains,, it would only go sideways, about 1/3 of the way up the ramps,,,

That was my conclusion when I looked into it. Was thinking a dump would be nice for my tractor work. But ended up getting a power tilt deckover. Still have yet to justify a dump.

The gooseneck photos above was a neat option as you can put the FEL over the top- that looks like it saves a few feet.
But unless you can figure a way to carry the brush hog off the the machine I don’t see this working with a 12’er.

My Ez-Dumper was designed for hauling skidsteers and then using the trailer on site. 6' 8" inside width, 12' Long. 10,000# gross. Dropped axle to keep loading angle down and center of gravity too. Tie downs at each corner. Removeable tailgate that's getting heavier with time. It's possible the axles are positioned rearward for this type of loads but I don't know that for sure.

It's only 8" wider than my current tractor but works ok. I load it going forward and rest the loader bucket lip on the battery/hydraulics box (just in front of the trailer bed). Bucket there has enough clearance with the tow vehicle to make reasonable turns. 6 ft bush hog rests on the back 8" or so of deck with most of the BH hanging out the back. Top link would have to fail for the BH to go anywhere. Red flag on tailwheel.

I can still pull forward enough to overload the F250 tow vehicle springs.

It tows fine. If I can drive the tractor to the destination in less than a half hour, I don't use the trailer. The load/unload effort isn't worth the saved time.

Same thoughts here. I do not haul it if I am taking it less than 8 or 10 miles away, but much over 10 miles and it starts to become worth the hassle/time of loading and unloading on the trailer.

A 14' dump trailer is barely doable. I am thinking about having Lamar custom build me a 20'x8' dump trailer. Me and a buddy currently split a 7x14 dump and it is just to short for my small compact TLB, especially if I want to drop a spare implement in with it. On my 25' flat bed I can have the tractor and 2 implements chained/strapped down. Longer is better no matter how you look at it.

Also, if your on a ice covered dirt road in Elk County Pa in January and your trailer slides sideways while your going around a hairpin turn on the side of a mountain access trail.... it handily stops sliding when the bucket enters your truck body. Big fun. Big fun.

If I had the need to haul my tractor to worksites (aka paying jobs), with a single driver and a single trip, I'd look at this. Of course, since that would require a bigger truck, I'd probably keep the car trailer and buy a dump truck instead.

About the time I bought my tractor, I decided to buy a trailer to haul stuff to the landfill. I also wanted to be able to haul my tractor, and stay within my budget. This led me to a 16' landscaping trailer - basically a car hauler with sides and a ramp tailgate. It was a very capable trailer - hauled the tractor a few times, two cords of firewood, two cubic yards of gravel, a load of 16' composite decking, and many loads of tree trimmings and brush to the recycling grinder.

And then, due to a health issue, I decided to work smarter. I bought a grapple. When the spring cleanup season started, I got a ton of work done with much less time and effort. I was also able to load the trailer with brush and branches quickly, and pack it down into a tightly-knitted mass 16' long, nearly 7' wide, and about 4' tall. Easy peazy - until the unloading part. I took SWMBO and a small chainsaw with me to unload, and we attacked the load from both sides. Had to cut the loaf into manageable chunks and tear it apart to pull it out. About ten minutes in, the wife snapped off a branch she was pulling on, and fell. She landed on her thumb, spraining it badly. She sat in the truck with a cold pack while I finished unloading. When I got in, she informed me that a dump trailer was in order.

I bought a 12' from Sky Trailer manufacturing. The 16' landscaping trailer was now obsolete for my uses. It just went to work for someone else, paying for a substantial portion of the dump trailer. I am completely happy with the ability to dump the load without touching it.

That is what I did. 18' car hauler and awhile later a 6x10, 10k deck over dump. My mistake was not getting 10k axles on car hauler.

Other than my EZ-Dumper being 10 foot long,, you described my trailer exactly,,
I am happy mine is only 10 feet,, that keeps me from overloading.

I have zero, Zero, ZERO interest in having a flatbed trailer, and that is after owning the EZ-Dumper for 20 years, I am even more positive.

This trailer has dumped multiple hundreds of loads,, think of hand unloading even ten loads of 2 1/2 tons of compost,,,
The dump has allowed me to improve the tilth of my soil,,,

I have hauled my skid steer in my 14 ft 14K dump trailer. I was using both to do some demo work on a job. It was very convenient but much easier to load and unload on a trailer purpose built to haul equipment.

I purchased a Sure Trac 14k 14' dump trailer the same day I picked up my new BX25D and love it though I wish I had purchased the 16' model. I've got a grapple and it's so nice to load the trailer with large logs and debris and just push a remote fob button and dump it. When I trailer the tractor I just pick up the loose bucket in the grapple jaws and drive up into the trailer and swing the BH to the side and close the rear gates. I'm clearing out a 2nd house and parked the trailer in the garage for a few months and used it as a dumpster for taking stuff to the landfill. I also did my back a favor and picked up a pair of quality aluminum ramps, so much easier than those heavy *** steel OEM ramps. Also shown are the tie downs I purchased, they make it so easy. If you're going to do it, spend the extra and go big, you will never be sorry.
