From what I've heard, it wasn't a big seller.

Yep...just a few more dollars and you could have a 3320 which is extemely popular.
The other thing...the 3120 just didn't have the power to justify the cost. You could do better buying a 790/3005. That, and the advent of the 3032/3038 tractors doomed the 3120.

I have one and it seems to be on par power wise with my old 4300. They did have too many models in the 3000 series. 4 Of the exact same tractors only with slight hp jumps. Seemed to me its about 1,600-1,800 big ones per jump.

Probably more on par with the old 4200. 3320 is pretty close to the 4300.
I know there are a few guys with 4200's (or 4210's) on TBN. There always were complaints (late 1990's, early 2000's) about a lack of power, considering the size of the tractor.
As far as too many models....yeah, reckon so. When the old 4xxx series came out, there were three: 4200, 4300, 4400. Then the larger chassis machines: 4500, 4600, 4700.

My 4300 was 32hp and the 3120 is 29.5hp. I was just saying seat of the pants feels about the same when running my brush hog. The 4200 was like 26-27hp and it was underpowered, my father in law has one.

Hard to beat the 4300's. I've given a lot of major consideration to trade up to the 3720, but the 'ol 4300 just keeps doin the jobs, whatever they are. :)

Not being able to get non-foldable ROPS was the major deciding factor to not trade.

Now I have two friends who want a 4300, and finding a used one is next to impossible. They are hanging tight to them. Also, don't like the one piece hood on the newer ones.

Same design change happened when Deere went to the X series garden tractors (from the 425, 445, and 455 set) and went to one-piece hood.

I loved mine, I bought it to replace a 4310 cause of the crappy first gen e-hydro. I had 990 hrs on mine and it looked like it had 200. I wouldnt have sold it but my dad made me a **** of a deal on the 3120 TLB he bought new and it had 90 hrs when I got it. Probably should have kept them both!
