Has anyone used a skidplate mounted hoe?

Has anyone used something like the Lankender Boomer Hydra-Swing on their Toolcat?

I have a friend that is interested in getting a Toolcat put he needs to do some ditch cleaning and maintenance and was wondering if something like this would work rather than also having a dedicated backhoe. In terms of the requirements for lifting capacity, hydraulic flow and horsepower listed on the web site, the Toolcat would qualify, but I expressed my concern about the fact that the Toolcat only has a single middle mounted arm on the loader where skidsteers have two, and also that the weight of the Toolcat is less than the typical skidteer.

Does anyone have any experience with a skidplate mounted backhoe, or know of anyone that has used one with the Toolcat? I notice that Bobcat doesn't list the Toolcat as qualified for the backhoes they sell.

I have no experience with one but from watching their video I would think the Toolcat lift is not high enough for dumping the bucket when digging a deep ditch. As well, I would think you could not use the offset feature when used on a Toolcat. Send them an e-mail and ask.

I have never used one or seen one for sale at any dealer in my area. Our ground is hard and I don't think they would work well in my area. Even a true skid steer backhoe can struggle in our soil. Many of these simple hoes have no hydraulic swing and the SS has to pivot to dump the dirt. The TC would need to have the type shown in your link with the hydraulic swing cylinder. I would think the TC would have as much front end weight (probably more) than a midsized SS. The TC might do as well as a skid steer but I would need to rent/try one before I would buy.

I think your concerns regarding the config of the TC's boom are well-founded. I really think that anybody considering such an implement ought to operate a conventional backhoe, large or small, to get a good understanding of the torques/stresses involved.

A number of attachment vendors such as Quick-Attach sell hoes that'll go on a SS that feature outriggers. I'd consider those more than anything without outriggers. But, frankly, I'm not thinking a hoe is something I'd want to put on my TC. YMMV.

I tried my skidplate hoe on my "a" series with a 2' bucket on it it. It kind of worked but did not have the power to raise up the digging rotation at one point. The controls are also not easy. I think that a D seareis would run the hoe better and the new lift design may help. I won't try it a second time at least on the A series

Radman is right, even a SS can struggle with a hoe. I have 709 on s185 and it can drag it all over, plus it has swing down support arms that help alot plus you have to use an additional 2 pt. mount kit too lock it in on machine
