Tractor
Where do I begin.....
The 3-point hitch probably has influenced the tractor world more than any single invention ever. It allows smaller tractors to do work of a much bigger machine, as well as standardizing implements from brand to brand. Eventually, someone would have came up with a simular idea, but the man who did it first was Harry Ferguson.

His legacy lives on. Examples of his early hitch designs, as well as his other ideas are there for all to see in a museum devoted to Ferguson.

Here's a link to the museum's website. Enjoy!

The Isle of Wight might not be a bad place to visit. They also have that place that restores old tanks.

The Henry Ford museum in michigan is also a very neat place to see . To see it all plan to spend two days there .

Ferguson must have been one interesting fellow.

I think that he is the father of the Ferguson Formula four wheel drive system that used a simple viscous coupling to compensate for the different wheel speeds providing all wheel drive back in the 1960s.

It was used in the Jensen Interceptor a fast & upscale British coupe.

1960 wasn't that long a go, was it?

Go to the website linked in my original post. Click on P99. That's the Ferguson Formula 1 car. Sterling Moss won a GP race in it.

Ol' Harry also was the British importer who sold "Overtime" tractors during WW I. They were Waterloo Boy tractors rebadged. Just as WW I was ending, John Deere bought out Waterloo Engine and got themselves in to the tractor business. Ferguson flirted with greatness at every turn. He died practically broke.

Isn't that the essence of the perfect life though? I once read that a well planned financial life resulted in your last check written to cover your funeral, and that it should bounce!

Yes, Harry Ferguson was quite a guy...

Hmmm... I was born in '61, so, to me at least, yes, that was a long time ago. ;)
