Another low buck project. Need to soften up and smooth out the dirt bike track I carved out in a pasture. It痴 ok for bikes but a tad too rough for trikes. Figured a drag harrows set might do the trick. Ten trips around and the results are less than spectacular. Next order of business will be to repair an old disc type plow to get a little bite into the surface. Then follow up with the harrows. 156D45BD-C9D5-4A97-A5D1-494ECB62918E.jpegB32189AD-0D16-4BC7-90F1-F1002948C902.jpeg16D33214-B31E-4DA9-A57F-5B954361B5EB.jpeg

Ive got a big chain harrow with the pick up frame like youve got on your spike tooth. Repair and modifying never seem to end do they?

A box blade would be better for that. It can take off the high spots and dump it in the low spots. Landscape rake would be my second choice.

Once the weather changes for the better I will give the land plane a go at this for the lumpy parts. Most of the track is ok. My home built plane has a hydraulic gate on the back to be able to carry or distribute material without lifting the whole implement.

Ran around with the plane, prairie pasture is tough to shave. Did come up with a couple more rocks to dig out with the grapple. Need to adjust the blades down for a more aggressive cut, haven't lost hope yet. Being a newb to the country living, got lots to learn.

Blades adjusted for a more aggressive cut, still not happy. Seems like the answer might be to repair the old disc, cut the surface, then try the harrows again to smooth. A little hesitation on my part, fear of making more lumps than the harrows can handle. Pic to dollow of the disc that needs repair. Looks old, but modded for a cyl to control angle of the discs.

Pic of the old disc. Has eight, 24 inch serrated discs. Haven稚 found a name yet. 82BF316C-390D-40F6-B056-01770E758D99.jpeg

What size tractor? You might look at having a local farmer pull his disk around a few times.

Grass sod is pretty hard stuff to work unless it’s cultivated till the roots are dead and dry. It just takes a little time and cultivation.

What you really need is a tiller. One pass (maybe 2) with the tiller will chop up the grass and if you leave the rear gate down, it will pretty much smooth out the lumps. It will take several passes with that disk since it is not a tandem, you will need to run 2 passes side by side then one pass straddling the furrow in the middle so as to level out the dirt.
