Hi All,

I am looking at a used Harley T5 power rake. I am trying to decide how much to offer and if it would be worth refurbishing. The rake is well used. I don't know how long the teeth are on a new rake. These are approximately 5/16 X 3/4" and are about 3/8" long. How long are they on a new rake and does anyone know what a new rotor for a 5' rake would cost? Could I weld new ones on myself (there is a lot of them) and would it be worth the effort to do it? The rollback barrier is serrated with a distance between the peaks and valleys of about 1". Should the rollback barrier be even across the edge or is it normal for it to be serrated? The guy bought it used and knows nothing about it. A salesman told him he should be able to get between $2500 -$3000. I don't think so, but then I don't know much about the value of a power rake that needs some TLC. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

They arent cheap brand new, but from the sounds of it this one is a bit used up...
I think if you posted some pics you could get better input..

I would not buy it the drum probably worn out and is expensive to replace. It is about half price of a new one and has about 80% of its life used up.

Those teeth are hardened and not really worn from what I recall on a from a new one. A new 6' hydraulic angle Woods brand posts about $6500 new. Harley mades the Woods but Woods sells it for a couple hundred cheaper then Harley- go figure! That was the information I got when I bought the Woods.

What condition where the bearing in on either side of the shaft (drum)? Those may be sealed if it has some age on it. Also, pull the plug on the chain side to see if they regularly changed the oil.

I called Harley (Palidin Group) and was quoted a price for a new rotor at $1540 or I could buy the teeth for $9 a piece and weld them on myself. 90+ teeth is a lot of welding. Too much if I paid someone to do it. Not to mention there is wear on the rotor itself. I was also told the teeth were approx 1-1/2" long. So this rake is well used (up). I am thinking of a much lower offer ~$1000 for the carcass which I am sure that is all it is good for in it's present state. Even $1000 may be too much. Still evaluating that. Then there is how much time and other associated costs I may run into. I still find it interesting the teeth are rectangular in cross-section and new ones are round. Is this rake a really, really old one?
