I have the opportunity to buy some hardie siding to use on my garage. This siding have been stored outside off the ground but UNCOVERED for the last 2.5 years. I can get this stuff for pennies on the dollar. Would it be worth the risk? It looks fine, doesn't look swollen, deteriorated or moldy. I plan on getting it covered and stored in a nice sunny and windy place to dry out. What do y'all think?

should be just fine. i would do it. let it dry out before painting. make sure you are installing with an air gap behind it. usually 1x2 or 4 every 16 on the wall over whatever your weather barrier is, like tyvec and fasten to those to get you a 3/4 air gap behind the siding. look up the install guide.

If your buying it, I think you will be just fine. However, if you will be storing it, please don't cover it with a tarp. The tarp will just encourage moisture, and the very mold and mildew your concerned about will appear. Keep it open and exposed to fresh air and the wind for maximum drying. Remember Hardie siding is designed to withstand even tropical rainy weather.

Isn't that made out of concrete? Should be ok but mold and mildew between the sheets would be my concern. Should be able to wash it.

You might have some staining between the boards, but it'll still be good.

It is cement, you are fine! I bought a pile from my neighbor and stored it outside for 5 years uncovered. Picked it up, let it dry and used it! No problems

As mentioned, just make sure it is completely dry before you try to paint it...

I used some that had lived outdoors, was even mossey and slimey.
I pressure washed, let it dry and then stained to match.
No problems.

Yup.... the OP should pressure wash it if necessary, but definitely spray it with a mixture of water and bleach.
