hard starting CT235

Don't know whether this was a cold start? If it was and glow plugs were not properly used you would get white smoke. Also a possibility the glow plugs are not all working. My CT235 has around 1400 hours and doesn't knock but these diesels do have a bit of a loud sound to them. No doubt, it could be classified as a knock from some. Personally, I would say it is a normal sound.

I gave $11,000 for mine 2 years ago so I think the price is reasonable.

I just looked at a CJ235 for sale. ~900 hours, no noticeable leaks, $11,500. Good price or not?? It seemed to start up a little rough, like knocking / coughing / white smoke for a few seconds, then after 5-10 seconds it was smooth, no smoke and sounded normal - like a diesel. Does this all sound normal for this engine at 900 hours?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you meant a CT 235. If so I would ask you if it included a loader and if it was a hydrostat or gear drive. Also your location will mean a lot when it comes to price. Assuming the tractor is in good condition with a loader within 100 miles or so of me here in the Midwest I would think that is a bit high. But good used tractors that are not tier 4 final are definitely in demand. And that is definitely a nice machine if the condition is good.

Ah, yes, CT235, yes, loader + hydrostat. In face, here's the craigslist ad. Location: Bend, Oregon. Seemed to be good condition to me. Smooth running, except for forward / reverse pedal needed some oil - it didn't move easily. Otherwise seemed to be in good shape. Cooland looked clean, no leaks. Engine, undercarriage, pto all looked dry on the outside.

I would want to know if it was stored inside or out
Sun and weather can be destructive to the plastic
Also if the go pedal is bad it can get expensive quick

That rough running for a short time when first started with engine cold is normal especially if started before the glow pug light goes out, or if glow plugs are weak/faulty. This tractor has automatic glow plug. When key is turned to ON and engine temp below 85F (approximately) the glow plug controller will automatically come on for about 25 seconds then after starting the glow plugs will come again and stay on for another 15 - 20 seconds to help warm the combustion chambers.

Did not catch what year it is but seem like a fair price. 900 hours is kinda like 35,000 miles on a car. Not enough to wear out much, especially if it has been maintained.
