It is just really an extra day off during our summer-time, but there does tend to be more community focused events than some of the other holidays...at least around here.

UNLESS you work in Quebec because they do 24 June (St Jean De Baptiste Day) when we drink LaBatt 50 beer and BBQ

nahhh the 24th is their equivalent of Canada Day ( July 1) they are a distinct nation and society and do what they want to do within Canada . so they don't celebrate the day they would have to recognize as the day they lost to the British and became a conquered nation ....
they haven't caught on to the August holiday cause no one told them they " have to" , yet ... so keep it quiet :laughing:
the Civic holiday is the generic name for " take a holiday this month and call it what you want " ... BC Day in BC .. Sask in Sask, soon to be Terry Fox day in Manitoba , ... towns call it different names too , Burlington - Joseph Brant Day , Colonel By Day in Ottawa, Simcoe Day in Toronto .... the list goes on ....
