Anybody ever heard of these folks? Propaganda says they want to send you new tools to keep at no charge in exchange for an honest evaluation. Dues $1.00 per month.

The Bride signed me up (I think), she loves to help. I'm Leary of anything that smells fishy.

I'm a Life Member.:D Joined for a year about 2 years or so ago. They kept sending stuff to join for life. They gave a credit for the time we had already paid. We then paid monthly installments. I've gotten 2 test products. One was essentially a wet wipe for washing car windows the other was a bottle of stuff call Evapo-Rust. I really liked it, wish there was someplace close I could buy it. I got a few odds & ends for becoming a Life Member, including an 18-volt cordless drill. Got it a couple of weeks ago. I've used it on the fence around the wife's flower garden. It feels about the same torque as my DeWalt - maybe a little faster too. A little lighter, I'lll let you know on the durability of it though. Also only the one battery, haven't tried to buy another - yet. The magazine itself is also pretty decent. Comes about every other month or so. Pretty decent projects in it. I believe the life membership was about $350. Subtract $79 for the drill and you are at $270, I figure if I live for 10 years, it'll pay for the membership part.

PS. I also bought a set of drill bits from the "club," they seem to be OK. Not the best bits in the world, but a nice set with a lot of different sizes. BTW, it is not a "club" as we don't get to vote for leaders.:D

Wife also is in a Garden Club run by the same folks, with the same promises.

I joined also. Wish I wouldn't have. They sent me a book, that I did not ask for, and then said I owe then $10 for the book !! Hello, I didn't order your stinkin' bok.
Then they send you tools that you are supposed to test and then "Keep" Yeah, keep if you happen to also pay for them. If not you have to send them back ( at your expense )

In short. It is Basically a scam !!!

I just picked some up at AutoZone. Glad to hear you like it. Haven't got a chance to use it yet.

That is the tools they want you to buy - that isn't the test tools. I have ordered one of the tools (a power hand planer). Used it, didn't like it (motor stuck out too much on the side) and sent it back. Cost me like 3 or 4 bucks. The test tools are completely free - even though I haven't received any big items yet. I do have the book sitting here. They provide the postage to send it back, but it has some neat designs in it - even so that we may pay the $10 and keep it.

The upfront advertizement looks good.

I joined and figured it was a rip off. Unjoined real fast when iI found out they were selling books and tools. Testing wasn't really in the program.

I've gotten the stuff in the mail from them trying to recruit me as a member several times, but haven't done it. Sounds like I'm glad I didn't.:D

Maybe I should say, don't join guys, don't join!!!! Maybe that'll give me a better chance of getting a big tool to test.:D

Everyone is free to make their own choices, but so far I'm not dissatisified that I became a lifer.:D I forgot I got something else when I was half-way through my payments. Seems like it was another set of drill bits - though smaller then the set I purchased. Guess I need to go through the file cabinet tomorrow and remember what it was. BTW, I keep all of my power tools & tools in cases in a big 4 drawer lateral file cabinet.

I had a humor article published by them some years ago. They required that I be a member to be published in the magazine, so I joined and they paid me three times the join price for the article -- pretty reasonable fee over all. I wasn't terribly impressed by the magazine, but it was OK. They didn't send me anything to review during my year of membership.
