Had a scare over a month ago.

Over a month ago after using my 2210 I notice that antifreeze was leaking out the overflow bottle. The bottle was full, at first I thought it was foaming. I came back a week later to check if I had a head gasket problem or not. So I had to add a good bit of water in radiator and ran the tractor looking for bubbles. Looked ok. I then decided to add a temp gauge. Since then I bushhog 3 arcres twice without the temp going over 170 and losing no water. No idea what happen . I guess I better keep a good eye on it. These tractors are so good that they repair themselves.

Let's see if I understand this right. When you found antifreeze "leaking" from the overflow bottle (also known as a coolant recovery bottle) was there a defect, crack, etc. or was the bottle simply so full that it was running over? Then you said you had to add water to the radiator. Was the overflow bottle still full or was it empty? When the coolant recovery system is intact, the radiator itself should remain completely full with no air space at the top, while the level in the overflow bottle will vary with temperature. As the coolant heats up, it expands and pushes some from the engine/radiator to the overflow bottle, then as it cools, it draws coolant back from the overflow bottle. If the bottle is damaged, you can lose the coolant so only air is drawn into the radiator as it cools. Or if the tube connecting the bottle to the radiator is damaged, broken, kinked, etc. it may not be able to draw coolant back to the radiator as it cools.

Check your radiator for clogging. If the fins are not kept clean the unit will over heat. Brush the fins lightly and then back spray the (cold) radiator with a garden hose. I keep a brush in my tool box so when I am away from home I can stop and clean the screen in front if it fills up. Birds comments are good.
