I am having an issue with the deck to my GX 335 JD. It is a 48" Convertible deck and when I took the blades off to sharpen them, I was cleaning up the underside of the deck and along with the blades, I removed the metal cup that sits over the bottom of the spindle. Does anyone know much about these decks?? Because when I removed this metal cup (or "Deflector" as the John Deere parts catalog classifies it) there seemed to be a seal, or what was left of one inside this deflector that rested in between it and the bottom of the spindle. I went to my local JD dealer to see if I could get these parts and they were on back order. My question is: Is there actually a seal or gasket or anything that is supposed to be there in between this "deflector" and spindle bottom or is what I took out of there just bound up string or trash?? I know this is a very obscure, unusual question, but I really appreciate any comments/feedback!! Thanks!!
