Hi Everyone,

Have a GT235 with a K71 transmission that operates perfectly.

Recently I noticed that the reservoir was down about 1/2 quart (at low). I changed the trans fluid a year ago.

Checked for obvious signs of leaks (drain bolts, seals, etc) and cant find anything.

Since I was winterizing the tractor, I put it away and placed paper under the trans to see if i could spot a slow leak.

No signs of leak in the past 3 weeks

Any ideas?

Thanks

I thought about you situation. I have only ever seen the k71’s leak not use fluid. I went back and checked the JD 345 manual. It states to check the trans fluid the same as the engine.

“Install dip stick until it rests on top of fill tube. DO NOT tighten it.”

Is it possible you tightened it in when you changed the fluid? Then when you checked it now you did not. I believe the difference in the treads would change the reading about that much.

The more common spot I see for leaks is at the bottom fitting for the reservoir. Yours is at the age where it could be becoming brittle. Normally though, once the oil is added it would leak, so hopefully a turn on the hose clamp is all it needs if this is the case. Welcome to the forum.
