"Groovy belt baby" as Austin Powers would say.....
But seriously
I took my mower off my BX22 today to just clean it up and grease it and such and I noticed that the back side of the belt had a groove started in it. It looks to be rubbing where the pulley cover mount on both sides. Is this a common thing? I have had this deck off many times and just now noticed it. Weak spring on the idler pulley maybe? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
It is wearing right in the middle which is exactly the same spot as the groove that rides in the pulleys. You would think this would make your belt split in two after awhile.
I know its spins pretty fast and the belt will flap some but this seems out of sorts. And I am sure the belt is not a cheap one to boot! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I will post some pics.

As Austin would say: : Ya Baby but on the flip it ain't groovy".

Looked at mine. It may have touched the bracket a time or two because there is hint of black on the orange but the I can still read the lettering on the belt from top to bottom.

Could be a loose idler used for tension. However, do you start the mower at idle speed? I always do. Maybe someone in the family who is mowing kicks in the mower at higher speed and may not know any better.

That thing really kicks in.

Just a thought.

Well mine is wore down to shiny metal and there was quite build up of rubber off the belt.

Nope I am the only on that uses it. And I always kick it on at a very low speed. Cause your right ...that sucker does kick in /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.
I only have 79 hours on her.... majority has been mowing......just wasn't expecting to see a worn groove in my belt yet. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Is anyone else having this problem with their 60MMM belt? I just wanted to know if this is a common thing and if anyone had a fix for it.

Maybe this is normal? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifI dunno...Thanks in advance

Called my dealer on this issue today and he is saying he has never heard of it. Suggested maybe grinding down the tabs its rubbing on? I hate to do that on a new mower deck.
Can anyone else check the back of the belt on their BX with the 60MMM? I would like to see if this is something common or not. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's not a good answer from the dealer. This shouldn't be happening. Measure the distance on your belt and then on a deck at the dealer's.

The deck should not eat belts.

Don't take "grind your bracket" for an answer. It's new and like someone said, "You paid for a warranty".

I just took a look at my 60MMM and the belt shows wear on the back side on both the upper and lower 1/4 of the belt, but nothing in the middle (see attached photo) I will say that the middle is grooved though, but no sign of wear there as judged by lookng at the white text on the belt. I did look at my supports as you show, and mine are also showing that the belt has hit it and are worn down to the metal (see next reply w/photo), but I would say that this looks to be normal movement in the belt during use and does not appear to be damaging mine at this point.

The wear I see on the back appears to be coming from the tensioner pulley but could also be contributed to on the lower 1/4 from these two points. See 3rd reply w/photo.

It appears that the clearance on mine while stopped is about 5/16" between the belt and those supports.

Hope this helps. Gotta love these digital cameras and this site for help and information.
