Ok, as I understand, grey tractors are any that are imported from somewhere else besides the US.... correct?

I have read a post or two looking for grey tractor parts. If it is just an imported tractor, why would parts be differant?

Say a Kubota grey needs parts... why could you not get normal Kubota parts... why need grey Kubota parts?

Kubota dealers don't like to sell parts to people with grey market tractors because you bought it for half of what they would sell it for. Also, all grey market tractors don't have an American match.

It is probably more correct to say that a grey market tractor is a tractor that was intended for a market other than the US.

Same effect though. Many grey market tractors are similar to domestic models, etc.. like the iseki / bolens.. or the 3 /4 digit yanmars..

If you took your car and sold it to a guy in Canada it would be a grey market car.

Lets try another tack. Forget tractors.

Grey simply means a vehicle sold new in one country and then as used in another. It has nothing to do with quality or value. If a Lamborgini was sold new today in Itlay, flown to Russia and sold the next day used it would be a grey vehicle in Russia.

Why the parts differences between vehicles of the same make sold in different countries? Private labelers can request some changes in vehicles from manufacturers who sell their products in different countries. Manufacturers who sell their own name products make some changes among various countries for any number of reasons.

Fords sold in Oregon are different than Fords sold in California because California has different standards. The parts are almost the same but not entirely interchangeable. Vehicles sold new in most states cannot be legally sold in California new. Most vehicle manufacturers list on the vehicle whether it can be sold in California. If there is this difference in various U.S. states then you can understand differences between countries

Some markets for a vehicle of the same name can very markedly. Some are metric and some ASE.

It helps to understand the bigger picture and then apply it to tractors.

Some areas of each state have different rules too. I our county there is no emissions testing, but in 3 other counties there is. If the vehicle can't pass the E-test.......no registration to drive it on the road until it's fixed.
