Here are my results and observations- I built 12' X 10'. I used treated lumber that I had laying around. The PVC was about $30. a piece of 6 mil uv film 22' X 24' was $74. delivered. I cut down an old screen door that I was going to scrap for the aluminum (I have to make removeable film panels for it), also a 3' X 3' window that I mounted sideways so I can open it for ventilation in the back wall.
I probably have 10-12 hours in it. I used wood battens to wrap the film then nail for more strength. Putting the film on was a PITA, trying to make it tight on the rounded ends was a challange.
All in all I am very satisfied with it and the film is warrantied for 4 years. Now I have to start my spring plants!

Looks nice, I wish it was time to start here. I'm just starting to get the itch. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day yesterday. Good luck with your plants.

Nice job. I plan to put mine up the end of Feb. This design is a good starter and we were looking at a site this weekend. I have been checking the site I want to use to make sure it gets enough sun early morning and late evening. I plan to put in a large greenhouse in the next year or two but this design will work till then.

How tall is your door?

David

Very nice! I think hoop houses are a nice way to go. I hope to build one with rollup sides so I can open it up to as high as 5' for full ventilation. Some of them also use the 50% shade screen for the hotter days of summer. If you are just interested in starting plants and then setting them out in the open, you may not have to worry about the hottest summer days.

The door is 5' tall. I was going to put a vent to open above the door so I made it shorter. Then I found the screen door and figured out that I didn't need the vent.
I had some old (solid) wood fence posts that I placed in each corner about 2' deep to anchor it. At first I figured it didn't need to be very level because the ground is pretty close but when I went to frame the door I realized it did need to be level to look right and for the door to fit. I was only a couple inches out so it was easy to get level.

I was at the scrap yard last fall getting plow parts and working on the old loader out there and they had a load of old trampoline frames there. The friend of mine worked there told me 2 50 each ring and he'd be happy but that they were useless. That just flew all over me. I thought of how good that would be a to make a nice green house frame. I bought 5 halves that were there. I piled them o nthe truck and came home i put them together in alve and tacked them in the joint. leaving the bottom 1 3/4 ID pipe that legs go in face the center. Then I did the same than and pointed them towards the other set. I took a 3rd half and took a 1 3/4 hole saw without the pilot drill in my drill motor and ran it through the other pipe leg mounts. and the frame of the trampoline. At the Landfill I got 4 1 3/4 fence top rails that were older and thicker than new ones. I slid them through the holes I bored then centered 4 pipes in them. I then took the first 2 halves and slid them on the ends of the fence top rails. It looks good I have plenty head room when I add my tables but I want to add 2 feet to each leg. I plan to use a self tapping screa in the ends to hold them on and let the center float. If I find some angle iron cheap thats 32 feet long I ll wed some pockets on them and make it all bolt together like porable car shed. I got some large laminated sheets of fiberglass and veneer that they use in the motor home slide outs at work they are 4 feet wide and about and inch thick. heavy as snot but are weath proof. I ll use them for my tables. I left my hoops tacked I may com back later and add four feet to the centers to make it super wide. I also plan to make a wood heater to heat the beds instead of the air.

Looks good -- film is good for 4 years -- what about the pvc? won't UV make it brittle and break? I've thought about using it ....if you paint the pvc it helps keep the UV from making it brittle too soon....

When I built my hoop house, I changed the plans a little bit and went 22 X 32, went up one size in the PVC pipe.

Shade cloth is a must after the plant emerge.

We left the door closed one summer with the fans off and the PVC sort of went in strange directions as it became way to hot.

I used double film and it is still quite good except for where a deer tried to climb the side of it. After five years the film is better than the PVC pipe due to the excess heat. The pipe has never become brittle.
