This is truly a great website for someone like me. Tons of information and opinions from all over North America from real experience. Found this website a few months ago as I am in the market for a tractor. I have never owned a tractor so I had a lot to learn. After reading a lot of stuff on here I am close to buying a JD 3120 with a FEL, boom mounted blade, 72" MMM and probably a box blade. I have a 1/4 mile of driveway to maintain in both summer and winter, plus about 3 acres of grass to cut on pretty much level land. I cut at two heights, about 1 1/2 acres is cut as short as possible because it is a runway for RC model Airplanes. Currently have JD L130 that can cut down to about 3/4". I hope to get down to an inch with the 7-iron deck. The rest is cut a normal lawn height. Right now I bag the grass with the L130 but it's a PIA. Was looking at a 2520 with a grass catcher but decided on mulching with the 7-iron after reading on here. The savings of not buying the catcher you can almost buy the 3120 instead. Was told by one dealer up here that JD will have a 72" 7-iron with a drive on deck feature this spring so I may wait for that.

Thanks Tig. I wonder if anyone out there with a 7-iron 72" MMM has experimented with how short they can cut the grass? Would be nice to know. My runway is almost as flat as a pool table so I shouldn't have to worry about scalping too much.
