This is a heads up to all owners of Great Bend Backhoes. I received a registered letter, 05/06/02, from Great Bend Manufacturing Company. It seems they have discovered a problem with their 3 point hitch mounted backhoes. The letter states: We recently discovered a potential safety problem with the following backhoe models: 651,652, 751,752, 851, 852,951 and 952. The backhoes contain a boom "Float" function which would be activated when the left hand control lever is pushed all the way foward. The primary purpose of the boom "float" function is to protect the operator from serious injury in the event the tractor hitch or backhoe stabilizer bars fail. The above mentioned models contain valve spools that were supplied without the float function. The letter goes on to say they will replace the "float" spool with the correct valve at no charge to the customer. Contact your local Great Bend dealer for the repair. This long winded post is for the benefit of the TBN members who may have bought a used Great Bend backhoe! They gave a toll free number if you do not have a dealer in your area, the tx. no. is: 1 800 825-1701.
