Grease

These two cost about the same and are easily bought anywhere. Is one vastly better than the other for tractor? Can I use either as universal and do tractor, implements, trailer wheel bearings, etc? Would be nice to just use one for everything....



ps...regular equipment/utility trailer - not boat trailer getting axles into water.

Well - my tractor op manual says either of those greases would meet their requirements. The green stuff says high speed bearing which would be your trailer wheel bearings.
The stuff I use is EP Lithium type and is black as India ink and gets all over me and everywhere else.

Is one as good as the other - if that were the case - why make two types. I'm not knowledgable on Lucas products. Wait for somebody who knows more or email Lucas with your question.

Red-n-Tacky is not a wheel bearing grease, so there is a difference there. I'm not sure if the typical NGLI#2 is a great bearing grease anyway. I would always use a dedicated wheel bearing grease and then the "everything else" grease ie chassis grease.

Generally my feeling is that any grease is better than no grease. Also I have really taken to using NGLI#1. The #1 is thinner and flows better when its cold and easier to grease and get into the joints better. And if you grease everyday its got decent staying power.

We have a winner!

Regular greasing with any grease in the general ballpark of being right (as long as you are consistant to avoid grease compatibility issues) will be better than infrequent greasing with the best grease.

X-tra duty seems to be the winner for all around general purpose between the two in just about any specifacation.

I use the red and tacky. Works well for me, all common grease locations loader etc.
