I am having a lot of problems with grease fittings (zerks). It seems that once I have the grease gun connector on it and the grease in it becomes impossible to take it off. This picture shows the grease gun with the nipple of the grease fitting torn out. I am at a loss. I thought all these grease guns were standard and fit all grease fittings. Can anyone help? For the moment I filed the four small grip mechanisms to make them less aggressive. I will try later today and give you some feedback.

I have noticed that some zers are tighter than others. I have found that pulling straight off is the hardest and a side pull at say 45 degrees seems to work better. If filing the grip mechanism doesn't allow grease to squirt out and the zerc is released better then I would say that you found the fix. Just be sure to flush out the filings.

Maybe there is a difference between the SAE and the metric grease gun heads, the SAE & metric zerk heads are certainly different sizes. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You can buy just the tip for your grease gun, if it turns out its the problem. I have problems sometimes when the grease is going in hard and leaves some pressure on the fitting. Not enough to break anything though. Sometimes moving or taking pressure off whatever it is I'm trying to grease will make the grease flow a lot easier.

On most grease guns, the tip is adjustable, just loosen or tighten the end to get a tighter or looser fit on the zerk............

I have found that pressure causes my zerk release problems. I have had to grind a wrench thin enough to fit between the gun and the zerk to loosen and release the pressure. When this happens I replace the zerk and the problem goes away. There is a tool that will free up the ball inside the zerk so grease can pass through it. The ball sticking or covered with paint can cause the problem.

I think you hit the nail on the head. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There, I learned something today, I can relax now. Thank you.

Thanks to everyone for the answers. Grinding down the grips helped, releasing at an angle helped and leaving some grease in the head of the grease gun helped. I believe the problem is solved. You people are the greatest.

The tips are adjustable, as others have already noted, without any drastic modifications or changes in use. Simply unscrew, slightly, the backshell of the tip head. That's all that's needed.
