What would make the belly mower deck not disengage on the 8000?

I am assuming you are talking about the drive to the deck. If the PTO lever gets too far out of adjustment it will not disengage.

Yes, the deck won't stop running. There is one for sale locally with that problem. I have a two-wheel tractor but have never been around a four wheel. Is $650 reasonable for the tractor and belly mower? The pictures look like it is a clean machine

I have never owned a 8000. I have owned a 8163 and presently a 16-G. The riders are built like tanks and just about everything on them has a grease fitting. I did have to have the dealer replace the PTO clutch on my old 8163. That was $300.00. If it is in decent shape it would well worth $650.00. The Gravely tractors are kind of addictive once you have owned one.

I don't know what it is, the seller advertised it as an "8000". I'll call him later on and try to get some answers. The ad says it has a 16 horse Briggs.

A sticking PTO is common if the tractor was stored with the PTO engaged. Drive it around and cut a little grass with the PTO disengaged. It should break loose in a few minutes.

If it is Briggs Then it will be a 8162B Manual lift or a 8163B Hyd lift

I just finished installing a PTO clutch in my G16. To my knowledge, it has the same setup.
It is a BIG job but can be done with the help of others, a parts diagram, service manual and a little mechanical knowledge.
I would be sure the PTO linkage is adjusted properly.
