I have been looking at upgrading my current mower for something with a little more comfort and power. I had a Gravely Pro-Turn 152 and it was a great mower but not quite big enough. When I bought it, I had every intention of buying the Gravely 460 but felt it was too big at the time. Well, years later and I realized I wanted a bigger mower with a 60 inch deck (kind of like buying to small of a tractor).
I had it narrowed to down to 4 mowers:
- Gravely 560, EFI 38 hp
- Kubota Z781 EFI
- Toro 4000 HDX, Myride
- Gravely 660
Really liked the Toro. It had a good sales price, electronic deck lift, 26 inch Voodoo Tires and a 31 HP Kawasaki. It was very comfortable and I liked the dealer.
The Kubota had tweels and an EFI Kawasaki. It was really smooth, rode well and felt like it was put together well. I was very close to buying this one and never even new about it until I was at the dealer that had the Gravely as well. I liked the parking brake on the deck as well.
I tested a Gravely 660 and it just did not feel right to me. Also, the seat could not get close enough for me to push the deck down without having to stretch and push really hard. That is why I was looking at the 560.
Once I drove the 560 I knew it was it. The airride seat, isolated mounts on the seating area and the way it sat and drove was just right up my alley. I had back surgery 10 years ago and I still get sore sometimes. Comfort was number 1 on my list and out of everything I tried, the 560 felt the best for me. I have cut my grass at church and at the house today and it is night and day different than my Pro-Turn 152. Big, comfortable, fast and easy on the back. It cut through 10 inch wet grass like it was not even there. Very happy so far. As time goes I will try and keep posting about this mower (likes and dislikes). There is not a lot of info out there about it so I wanted to do an initial review for anyone looking for this type of mower. Did not burn as much gas as I though it would have on both of the properties. I will have to try and see how that does as time goes.
I am on 16 acres with some rough ground, rolling hills and 4 acres at my church. Will also probably be cutting my Mom's and Aunts sometimes as well. I think any of the mowers I tested would have been great but I just could not get away from the 560. It is a beast.
