I have a gravely 20G that the transmission was torn apart when it was given to me. I'm in the process of rebuilding it. I have the gears all back in and have noticed that the rear drive gear for the PTO will move forward about 1/4 inch.(this leaves only about 1/2 the gear to drive it) or out against the front bearing plate. At that point I can adjust it to disengage, is this normal, all the parts of the PTO seem to be in good shape. (had to tear it down since it sat engaged for so long without much oil on it) any help would be appreciated. All the parts seem to be there according to the parts breakdown.

Ok I removed the motor again and pulled the PTO out again, getting real good at this. I reread the manual last night and in the reinstallation section it comments about replacing the square retainer. So low and behold after inspecting the rear bearing and rear clutch cup that was stuck clear out at the end of the shaft I found a place for the retainer, of coarse no retainer, so I have to order this part. In looking at the parts breakdown online at several gravely websites it shows the part being the bearing retainer which I think is wrong. the part description is correct for the square retainer. I guess it pays to read the description of all parts and not just assume that the drawing is 100% correct. Lesson learned.
