I have read that book and if you use those methods you don't even need a tiller

I use loose raised bed. That is, no formal sides. My beds are approximately 4' wide and can be up to 40' long. Once they are planted, I only use the tiller set to one inch deep to cultivate between the beds and around the outside edge of the garden to keep the weeds down. I mostly use hand tools in the beds during the growing season.
