If your talkng about the leach field pipe that is shaped like a dome, Ican't remember the name of it, I have the same thing for mine. It has been in the ground for six years and I've never had a problem with it.

It is used a lot in this neck of the woods and people do not have a problem with it. Easy to install too.

I install septic systems on the side here. All I can say is your plumber is either ignorant of the stuff or has had a bad experience with some that was installed wrong. I install about 3000 to 4000 feet of the stuff per year and have no problems in the clay here. Dad says he wished they had the stuff 42 years ago when he first started installing septic systems. Most folks that install a bad sock pipe eith go too deep with it or set the grade/fall wrong. Here in MS code says you need 100 feet of line minimum and double it in a fifty foot trenchwith a Y to make the proper surface area for the leach feils. I usually dig a 100 foot trench and use 2 100 foot lines to make the proper leach area for a 3 bedroom house.
I M starting to use that dome shaped stuff now in smaller yards. It only needs 60 feet of it to make enough surface area to leach properly. All the gravel in a leach field do was to keep the leach line from sealing up with dirt or mud. They sock that slides over the pipe does the same thing as the gravel. The last job i did that the ownere wanted to use gravel in the leach field instead of sock pipe had alot larger bill than normal I hadd to ad 3 hours on the job for the extra depth of the trench and toting gravel bakch there. then had to remove the spoil dirt that was displaced by the gravel. The load of washed gravel alone was 250 dollars plus hauling. Im gonna say it nearly doubled the cost of that job.

If I recall right, the stuff we buy here is called "Infiltrator", it's been in the ground in my yard for the last 3 years without any problem. The Health department did require we install more of it than we would have had to with a regular gravel bed.

hey guys, thanks a lot.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
the 250' is 8" diameter and is U shaped with a 1000 gal. fiberglass tank.....the tank will be about 15' from the back of the slab for the house, then the width of the tank which is about 8', the the line comes out about 40' makes a left turn (NASCAR) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, then about 80' west, then left (NASCAR again) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif then about another 130' south.......the house will face the south.....will keep you posted as we go along.

I knew i could find someone here with experience with this "stuff" ...The previous owner said it had the sock on it, so i guess it'll be OK..... thanks again for all the input.....

good luck,

Around here the socked type of pipe is known as "Easy Lay" (they may spell it different) and has the advantage of being able to make some gradual turns to avoid rock ledge as well as no gravel. As Steve said the domed lines are known as "Infiltrator" and also do not require gravel. Both are used often here without problems.

Systems, conditions and regulations vary so much from place to place it might be worth getting another experienced opinion in your area.
