I'm about to get my GradeMaster delivered and need to build up my road. I need to add a total of 6 inches to it. I have a 700' driveway with a fairly steep pitch. With using the GradeMaster do you feel I should build up the road with gravel alone, gravel underneath and then Stamatte, or just Stamatte? I'm not overly concerned with the cost difference between the 2 materials, more concerned with what will work better with the GradeMaster and holding the road together.

I live in New England where we get lots of snow, rain and mud season if the road is not prepared correctly.

Is Stamatte a tradename for a fabric baselayer?

Or are you talking about Yard Mix??

Just out of curiosity how steep a grade do you have?

How do you plan on plowing it in the winter?
If its just gravel, you'll find that you will not be happy with the results...

Stamatte is a crushed stone material that packs together to form a very hard surface. Not sure if it is a local thing or not.
Is "crusher run" the same as gravel?
The grade is about a 9%.
I have a neighbor with a plow that has generously agreed to plow it for $15 per plow. Much better than getting up at 3 am to snow blow it myself!!

Use the crusher run on a well drained solid base.:D :D

Thanks Egon
Drainage is not my problem LOL.
I have a large drop off on one side of my "L" shaped drive. I need to crown my drive so in the winter cars stay on the inside so as not to fall off the outside and roll over! I have a culvert at the bottom to get the water underneath my drive to the down hill side. Picture an "L" shaped driveway that continuously climbs with a drop off along the entire outside of the "L".

Will crusher run compact? The Stamatte material becomes almost rock hard after getting compacted so no problem with a snow plow depositing the material along with the snow over the bank.

I can't find "Stamatte" on any search. I'm wondering if it is a name someone uses for reclaim. That is the tar that gets grinded up from roads when they are planning on retarring the roads. Cities and towns sometimes use this material for road surfacing. It is the next best thing to a tarred driveway for much cheaper. It compacts with pressure/weight from vehicles driving over it, especially on hot days.
I'm not sure if it is good to build a drive up with reclaim, but it is great for a surface material. I'd check into that if you are looking for a hard compact surface.

ahhh. That spelling makes a difference. hahaha
That sounds like it would do the job that you are looking for. Still not much info on it. I'd call the company that supplies it and see what they say. Something I'll research in this area

Looks like Yard Mix, at least that's what the guys in S.T.Griswold's quarry call it...:D
