I have a storage/implement shed with a dirt floor. When I walk in there after walking through dew covered grass, my boots get pretty nasty. If I walk in the house and forget to take off my boots, it makes a big mess.

I am considering putting in a gravel floor. Anybody done this? Are there any downsides I'm not considering?

My "Kioti Den is 0-3/4 gravel. Packs hard, is not nasty at all, and makes a good base. I can't think of any downsides. gotta be way better than the mud.

Just one caveat...if you use gravel with fines (especially something as hard as granite etc...)...wet shoe soles will pick up some of the fines that will act like sandpaper on finished wood or vinyl etc. floors...

Pea gravel (small rounded wash stone) should work. But with many work boots/shoes you have no assurance you won't drag them in with you. I have a rug at the garage door, one when I enter the house, one inside the house. Would certainly be better than mud though.

The only problem is if you ever have to get down on your knees to work on something you will need a pad. Ed

I have an old horse barn on my new property that had a dirt floor and In hated it. I got a load or two of road gravel and spread and packed it down with a roller, now all is good. Not as good as concrete but doable. It is much easier to work in and much drier.

I have a gravel floor in one side of my barn and it packs down and works well . The only problem I have is moisture . The rocks stay dark in some places indicating moisture seeping up. I would suggest a heavy plastic ground cover then gravel.

Googled stonecrete. Appears to be a decorative/stamped type concrete. Seems kinda expensive for a shed.

Sounds like a solid idea.
