A distant friend has a early 2000's era Grasshopper 721D and it has approx 900 hrs on what appears to be the original weathered hour meter. The engine / paint, and mechanicals reflect approx 900hrs in my opinion. It is far far from mint, but not a pile of junk either.
Engine starts and runs good with no smoke, and he left hand hydro unit blew out in 2019 and was replaced with a reman unit. Then in 2021 the right hydro drive snapped the axle clean off, not because of a bad bearing or anything, but it looks like porous metal that just snapped.
Anyways my two questions are, can I simply unbolt the outer axle casing and hopefully replace just the axle, bearing, and seal?
And is this fairly well supported now that it is getting older? The kubota diesel really peaked my interest in this unit.
