Been a bit different weather here in south central KY this year. Kind of dry then going into August we have had rain, temps around 90 and high humidity. As a result, you can pretty much watch the grass grow, lol! It never seems to dry out enough to cut properly without clumping. I have some fenced in areas for my dogs that I mow with the walk behind bagger. Geez, I can barely go fifty feet and have to stop and empty the bag. The folks that put up hay cannot get the right combination either.

Beyond all that, two of my horse have been having laninitis issues so I have them completely off the grass and have had to go to dried hay. Now I see another one limping tonight that I need to take a look at in the morning. Always an adventure, lol!

A far cry from what we have had this summer up here in central BC. Due to the very dry summer we have had, I have been cutting my grass about every three weeks or so - whereas I would normally have to do it at least once a week (grew to about 6"-7" in a week).
Thursday I cut the grass for the last time this summer - I hope. It isn't too bad as we have a 54" rider mower which allows a three and half hour cut for about four acres of grass (just guessing here).
Anyway, I couldn't help but comment on the lack of grass this summer. The local farmers second hay growth doesn't seem to be very much this year, so what works for some people doesn't always work for others.

Know what you mean. I thought at the end of July we might have a normal August but that didn't happen. Usually if I mow once in August I am doing something. This year if I missed a week I had to get the bushhog out. Looks like a wet harvest here. What fun those can be.

Usually we have a dry spell to slow up grass growth but we too are mowing non stop. I mow around 5 acres so this is getting quite tiring. I bought the wife a JD x744 so that has helped a lot. The neighbor bought a old chopper so he comes over and shoots the grass onto a hay wagon for his horses. He lives on a hill and normally his pasture would be dry as a bone now.

Just got done mowing mine. This has been a good year to grow grass, that's for sure. Everything I do with my rider I can do in just under 2 hrs.

If a guy couldn't grow grass here this year he needs a new gardener.

I thought last summer was a wet year here but this summer even worse. It really thickened the grass this year. We have an insulin resistant horse and between the pastures and the yard we are about mowed out this year. I will say the corn crop has done extremely well around here.
