Anyone adapted a simple grass catcher toa 54" Kubota BX24 MMM?
I just need on to collect leaves a couple of times each fall. Does the deck have enough suction / blowing power to move the clippings through a setup similar to a Cub Cadet bagger?

Have you considered a pull behind attachment? I recently bought a couple of pieces from a guy north of here, made by a company called Giant Vac.
One is a blower to blow the leaves into the swamp behind his house, and the other is a yard vacumn. It picks up the leaves and stores them in a hopper, till it is loaded (holds a lot!!) and you remove two wing nuts, grab a handle and raise it up. Pull forward and it is unloaded.
My thoughts are it would be easier to buy either a vac or a blower and pull them, then to try and adapt one to your MMM and not be sure if it would work.
I have entertained the thought of plumbing the blower into the mowing deck of my Steiner, to pick up the leaves and then blow them into a trailer, but pulling double trailers in my yard doesn't make since when I have the vac.
Before the vac, I just blew them to one side of the yard where there is a ditch, and let the next rain wash them away.
Depends on your situation

I didn't mean to put a damper on this post. Surely somebody has tried something similar...

There are tow behind units out there that can attach to the chute of your MMM. I'm sure you could build something similar if you were inclined to do so. Many of these units use separate engines to power the vacuum but Trac-Vac makes one that is PTO powered. A friend of mine uses a Cyclone Rake behind his garden tractor to pick up leaves and he loves it.

David,

Just curious - the debris blower - is a Giant Vac unit ? - what model is it and what did you have to give for it if you don't mind sharing ? PTO-driven ?

I don't think that any of the Kubota BX MMM's, either the 54 or 60 has enough power on it's own to fill any kind of bagger without power assist. I believe that once you get over 48" that the mowers are just too large.
Kubota does make high lift blades available but I still think you'll need an additional power unit, be it pto powered or powered via a separate small engine.

I started a thread alittle over a yr ago on choosing a bagger for my BX23 w/a 60" MMM. There was lots of good input from many folks and I decided on going with the Cyclone Rake. In the yr I've had it it's done a great job picking up grass clippings as well as the fall leaves and hasn't given me one trouble. I went with it because it seemed to be th easiest to fold & stow but I never fold it up, I leave it assembled. With this in mind I would have probably liked the more expensive DR vac just as well.
Good luck, falls just about here :D

The debri mower and the vac are both Giant Vac units. I already had a blower for my mower, which is made by Steiner. I gave $250 for the blower and $400 for the vac.(Used of course) I have been watching them on ebay for a while and haven't been able to touch one for even close to that.
The Giant Vac blower is powered by a 16Hp gasoline motor made by Kohler. I think it is called a Magnum 16. I mainly got it because it started up and ran after sitting for 3 years, and the yard vac didn't start. I figured if I couldn't get the pull start motor running on the Vac, then I could swap it out for the electric start Kohler. ( the engine on the Vac is a Briggs)
I am really happy with the Vac, as it does everything I wanted it to do, and more. I had considered building a vac, and had even purchased the impeller to start on, but decided I didn't need one that bad, that I would spend that many hours building one.

Have to look it over to see if it has a model number on it and get back to you.
