Does anybody run tire chains on the Grand L series with R4?

The L4330hst with R4 that my friend is letting me use for the winter has very little clearance between the inside of the tire and the fender brace. Maybe an 1 to 1.5 inches. There doesn't seem to be any adjustment (wheel spacing) on the R4 rims like on the R1 rims.

Are there spacers availible? Seems like I only need an extra inch.

Also... Does anybody run front chains?

Many thanks for your help.

I'm running double ring chains on my Grand L3710. You must keep them tight or you'll be missing a fender or 2. I used ~10 9" rubber tie downs on the inside and the outside to keep things very tight. I've put a few miles on my chains and love the traction and hate the rough ride.

I did a test before I put the chains on, drove off the drive and went about 10 feet before the rear tires started spinning, had to put it in 4wd to get out, the diff lock wasn't enough. We had about 12-16 inches of packed snow.

I put the chains on and did the same test, never spun a tire and never put it in 4wd. I did 2 loops into the field, 1/4 acres loop the 1st time, 1 acre loop the second.

Mine were purchased at a local independent farm store for $330, (17.5L 24 tires). Very heavy side chains and 11 link double ring cross chains.

I have a L3830 with ag tires and I use valby"bar" style ice chains. They do not require as much clearence as the double ring type but you do have to keep them tight. try this site www.valby.com. They are by no means cheap, 1 year ago I paid $560 for a set to fit 14X24.

I wonder if you let the air down a little on tires that you might find some better results. Make sure you are getting a full foot print.

Has anybody tried switching the off set on a R4 rim?

Looks like to me if I swapped the tires right to left (keeping the direction of rotation the same) and mounted the rim on the inside of the flange. It looks like it will give me more width about 6" per side but it may be too much.

Anybody done this?
