A little dated, but here's龍 what I知 now doing when changing the steering cables. I have replaced these cables at least 6-7 times since I purchased this mower brand new. Wound up paying local Kubota dealership to change both out and two new cables and labor for a total price of $210.00. No luck getting anyone at Kubota to call me or offer suggestions to do something about the cables because they really hold the owners up when they break. Obviously, they had a real problem when these machines were built. They should have done the right thing and give customers with this design a fix to make life easier and enjoy a $9,000.00 mower. They aren稚 going to do it plain and simple!! So I have re-routed both cables so that they don稚 go underneath the front of the engine beneath the crankshaft and oil pan lip. Looks weird, but it hasn稚 broken yet!!! From the rear axle, route the cables on the outside of the mower frame. Use wire ties to secure the cables as you work your way to the front. When you get to the front, just route the cables around the front of the engine making sure that you keep the cables away from the flywheel teeth. Very important!! Hook the cables up to the front attach points and you豎*e ready to go!! Worked for me. Maybe a quick fix to keep owners going for a couple of cutting seasons. Hope this helps anyone still trying to deal with this issue.
IT SEEMS THAT ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THIS MOWER WITH THE ORIGINAL SET UP, ARE DUE FREE RE ENGINEERED NEW STYLE ROD KITS FROM KUBOTA. AS LARGE AS THEY ARE I DON探 UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WON探 TAKE CARE OF US. BUT THEY WILL NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!! MAKES ME SO MAD!!!!
Thanks for hearing me out on this folks. Happy mowing!!!

I hear you brother - and I completely agree! Have had mine for 14 years and just a little over 200 hours and have changed more of those cables that I care to remember (yeah - in just 200 hours!). Shame on Kubota for not doing the right thing and giving us an upgrade to rods. Exploding transmissions are also a concern. But I suppose they'll just let attrition solve these issues. It definitely leaves a bad taste in one's mouth, though. Would love to see some photos of your revised cable routing plan. I'll try anything that makes the miserable job of running new cables a bit easier. Hang in there my friend ... I feel your pain!
