Lightly looking at a 2017 Chevy LTZ 2500 Duramax. Since it has aftermarket tail lights (why?) and some other stuff, I asked if it had a tuner. Dealer (honestly) said yes for MPG (What all people say)...Anyway..It has 21k on it and I certainly don't want to have a voided 100k warranty due to it having been tuned .

I think the warranty is shot--Opinions?

They are asking market for it, so no great deal although there might be some room on it--The truck is mint though. Thinking I should look elsewhere--Not sure I even need/want a diesel anyway since the 6.0 and the 6.6 have similar towing capacity and that's really what I'm after.

I would think the dealer could answer for the warranty after plugging into it. From what I understand the L5P was out for a while until anyone figured out how to get in it. Here is a link to a discussion on tuning it:

I cannot imagine wanting any more power than stock if using as a truck and not a hot rod.

It's at an Alpha-Romeo/Dodge dealer--Not sure if they'd have the software to know or not. I agree about more power, they have plenty enough already.

if you aren't sure, walk away. There's a reason why you get those warning signals going off in your head, and they made a lot of other trucks back in 2017.

I have had tuners on Ford trucks before but I have a dealer that looks the other way. I would look for a 6.0 motor, they are good engines and you say you don't need the diesel so why pay a ton of money for maintenance and IF the injectors go south on a duramax, it cost a pile of money to replace them. My buddy has one, he paid $4k for injectors, crazy.

Not close enough with any dealers to get away with a tuner but I feel the same way about gassers vs diesels...Seen people get pummeled in all brands when injectors etc go south. Stupid money. The 10k premium up front is stupid money too, unless you just gotta have it. No disrespect to the diesel lovers. I've had them and love them but the new stuff is a little scary.

I agree - the techs at a dealership have a hard enough time working on them with factory assistance. Don’t think I would want one out of warranty either. You will find an equal or better deal with some patience.

They want $53k for it. Not a great bargain.

I'm amazed at how much they want for trucks these days. I bought a brand new F-350 CCLB Lariat diesel in 2007 for 35 grand, the same truck today is 65K, it's nuts. You have to be making money with it to own one or have/ make tons of money to afford one. The market will crash at some point. I read the other day the default rate on new vehicles is very high, is it any wonder.
