Thanks to the generosity of my mother -in-law, I am now the owner of a 7' rear blade for use with my 855 tractor. I think it was a very extravangant gift....I got the blade, and the wife got a roll-around automatic dish washer for Christmas.

Now all I need is that can of green spray paint....King Kutter yellow is just too harsh on the eyes, and doesn't match the tractor.

Thanks mom!

Kool.... I have painted King Kutter attachments JD Green
also. I even did it on my 6 foot Rhino blade. That green
fever is tough to get rid of.
P.S. can I borrow you mom-in-law?

My My!!! You have one very nice Mother-in-Law!

You'll find that 7' blade a good match to your 855.

I bought a 6' King Cutter for my 4200. I've already used it 3 times to clear snow off the driveway. Gotta love it, 150' of drive, 12' wide, five minutes work (if you want to call it that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) Probably the best $200 I've spent since I got the tractor.

I am hoping to get at least one good snow here in northern Illinois this year. I calculate that I have 1800' of driveway, 15'-18' wide that tbe cleared, plus the working areas around the horse paddocks, the manure area, etc.

Probably be a wee bit more than five minutes each time..

After giving the blade a good inspection, I gotta say that the build quality looks quite good, contrary to the economical price. Hopefully it holds up as good as it looks like it should.

Here's a question though....when I raise my 3PH to the full up position, the blade is only about 3 inches off the ground when on flat & level pavement. Is this common, or do my link bars need to be adjusted somehow? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't have a JD (unless you count the push mower and the weed wacker) but when I raise my blade on my NH it is easily 8" off the ground. Don't use a regular blade on the Kubota much, but I do work with a box blade, I'd say that is lifted about the same on that tractor.

You can shorten your top link some. That will pivot the lower edge of the blade about the lower links. It's also going to depend how tall the mold board is.

I don't know if height is something one can adjust on a KK blade (mine doesn't, but it's not a KK blade either). Does your manual address this at all? There have been posts on TBN discussing moving the lower link attach pins on implements (thus raising the lift height of the blade), but I cannot recall if blades were specifically discussed.

Dave, I added some lower attachment points to my blade for a smaller tractor I used to own. It allowed me to get the lift I needed but prevented me from turning the blade in the reverse direction. I welded on some angle iron extensions with some holes drilled in them and painted it the same color as the rest of the unit. See attachment.

Oh ya, also added some steel and drilled a hole for the new top link attachment point.

I got the 7' blade also. I've used it a few times this year for snow removal and it works great. I had it mounted forwards, next snow I will try it backwards and see if that is better.

Sounds like you need to adjust your top link length. I got a lot more clearance than that on my 990 in transport... probably a good foot.

 Dave,

I also have a JD 855 and recently bought a Woods 6' rear blade. It has side to side tilt, and with 15 degrees of tilt, the corner is almost dragging. I too would like to be able to raise the blade higher. If I adjust the top link, it just changes the angle that the blade bites the ground. Let me know if you find a solution. It seems that the lower links on the 3PH need to be shortened!

Also, do you have trouble starting in cold weather? I'm parked on a lot with no electricity so I can't use any kind of external heater. I jump it with my truck and it turns over fine but won't fire if the temp is less than about 40. The air heater preheat light works as advertised. I'm wondering if the heater itself is really functioning. In the 50s or more it starts very easily and always runs great once it starts.

Actually, I shortened the top link about 1 1/2" and it raised the blade as I expected. Where is the actual blade relevant to the lower 3PH ball joints? I don't know the configuration of the Woods blades, but on the KK, the blade is about 2 feet behind the mounting points. When you shorten the top link, the whole assembly pivots upwards. I think that you are not likely to get much better with that much tilt. A 6' blade at 15 deg tilt will have one corner on the ground, and the other 18.6" high. That seems like a pretty good height to me.

We had some pretty cold days here last week (0 deg air temp), and I had no problems starting. I only used the block heater on the one day that was the coldest, and on the other days, I just waited for the pre-heat light on the dash to time out. I don't have the service manual, so I can't help with checking the pre-heater, but you can do the normal stuff like making sure your air filter is clean, quality fuel, etc.
