JD 4110 / Ford LGT145
Hello everyone!

Well after waiting 3 weeks my 4110 was finaly delivered today! WOW what a nice machine! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I will post pictures a soon as I get a camera...
At first I was really concerned... I mean a 4110 is BIG compared to your average lawn tractor! (No I didn't test drive it before... The dealers don't ofer that around here!??) I said to myself "I think I over done it this time, I'm never going to be able to move around with this big tractor and now will have to call the dealer and tell him I need a smaller tractor! Huh!" Then I started to mow around the property and I was stuned! This big tractor has a smaller turning radius than my old Ford LGT145! But the most incrediable thing was the quality of the cut... I think I never had a lawn cut this well! WOW it looks like it was done but a professional! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The FMWD is very useful. At one point I couldn't back up a small hill. No problemo just activate the FMWD and voila I'm going up the hill!
The ROPS needs some getting use to, but I was planning on doing some tree trimming anyway /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Now the dealer brought me a tiller but not the tiller we had agreed on... We had looked at a 54" Agric tiller.... He brought a 60" Bhuler Farm King for no additional money! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif This tiller is HUGE... I'm going to have to enlarge my garden cause it's just too small right now! This tiller ever offsets! I tried moving it by myself tonight /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif There is no way I can move that monster! I could even push one side! Now I need to build a caddy to move it around.
I also tried the FEL a little bit... I think I really can see a lot of usage for that thing. Glad I got it!
The neighbors were kind of curious /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif they sat on their porch while watching me going around mowing my lawn. There's already two people inquiring about what we will do with the old Ford!
I don't think the thank was fuel of deisel cause after only one day of playing around it's almost empty! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Now I need to find a place to buy some fuel. Can you buy some type D Diesel at any gas station that sells diesel?
Overall I'm soooooo happy! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Even if this tracotr is overkill for my property I'm glad I got it! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Sounds like you're in for a fun summer! You'll find yourself popular with the neighbors if you're the only one with a FEL. Great for moving soil, mulch, sand of anything else that you can get in the bucket.

You might want to search for threads about "bucket hooks". A great add on that allows you to use the FEL for limited lifting with chains. Great for moving logs or other bulky items. Be sure to have an implement or ballast box on the back so you don't get the back end too light. And a full FEL should always be kept as low as possible because the CG gets high in a hurry with the loader up in the air with a bucket full of material.

TurboSonic:

First, Congratulations on a great machine. I think you will love it just as much after several years /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I'm not too sure about Canada, but down south here in the USofA, you can buy diesel at any gas station that sells diesel. However, if you have enough need and can find an agricultural supplier, we can buy "off-road" diesel for a tractor. Basically, it is the same stuff, just dyed a different color. The "on-road" diesel is sold for trucks and diesel cars and has 15 or 20 cents per US gallon tacked on for highway taxes. I don't know if Canada has a similar tax situation, but the tax and the color of dye (so the tax collector can tell if you are burning "off-road" diesel in your highway vehicle) is the only real difference.

One suggestion: Buy one or two of the /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif YELLOW /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifplastic fuel cans for the diesel, so you don't accidently mix it up with gasoline. Gasoline and diesel engines don't mix! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif (can be very expensive).

You will really like the 4110, no question. I have a 4100 since 1998 now on about the same size property as you. I think that is about the smallest property to use a machine like this but not a problem. I wouldn't call it overkill at all. I got the FEL about 2 years after the fact and once you see how handy it is, you will never be without one again. It has saved my back so many times.
I buy diesel at local gas station in a 5 gallon plastic pail.
