Hi all

Other night I was driving home and a cow walked out on road; rural back road. I swerved and stopped. Tthe cow, more like a 3/4 grown steer, panics and hits my car. Runs right into side like a scared deer. He's stunned, shakes himself and lumbers down the road in front of me. My car has a nice dinge on fender. I head over to the farmers house. The farmer says thanks for letting him know, he'll get the cow back in. My wife asks, "What the damage to my car?" It was her car I was driving. He "don't know. Get the car fixed and he'll turn it to insurance. I'm not sure" he says " if home owners will cover it. But fix it and I'll take care of it."

Question; Is farmer liable?

Cheers...Coffeeman

If the cow hit your car, the Farmer's homeowners should take care of it. If not, your comprehensive should cover it. The use of comprehensive shouldnt effect your rates and you probably have a very low deductable, if any, on comprehensive.

What you described happened to me early one morning, except the cows didnt hit me and there were several of them wondering around in the road. It was a strange experience weaving amongst them as they lay and stood in the road.

Going back and forth to town we drive through a portion of a military installation. It is "open range", which means cattle on the roadway. Having cattle deciding to walk across in front of you or just standing on the road is just part of the everyday around here.
