Thought I would give it a try and was not disappointed:
1/2lb Brisket
1/2 lb Chuck
2oz frozen butter grated.

Combine all three quickly and form into patties/burgers, sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper and rub with olive oil, grill on high heat for about 5 minutes a side, put on a slice of cheese for the last 2 minutes and serve on a toasted bun with mayo, lettuce, tomato and fried onion.
Simple but was really good, pretty much just meat and the butter gives it the fat content and adds flavour with a 'U' because we are in Australia.
Easy way to do the onion, cut a slice, coat with oil and put on the grill, turn once, lift off with tongs and it will separate into rings.
Not claiming this recipe and it can be found on Youtube but thought it worth sharing because it is so easy and tastes really good.

These are diet burgers - correct?

(Ha ha)

I've always liked fried onions better than raw onion on my burgers. I have no doubt your recipe is a good one.

I went to visit some friends in San Diego and they took me out to eat at a place called Slater's 50/50. Burgers that are 50% ground bacon and 50% ground beef. That was a great burger. We had to wait maybe 40+ minutes to get a table.

caramelised onions are good too, just take a while to cook.

Nothing like a good Patty Melt sandwich. Best part is the onions. Yum.

I shall probably next week, my onions (red/spanish) are cooked (slowly) in olive oil and I use balsamic vinegar and brown sugar, just have to go and get some rye bread.
When we do burgers at home we use multigrain rolls as no one in our home likes white bread.

We are with you on the white bread thing. Don't understand it at all.

Report your findings in regards to the Patty Melt. I expect even foreigners such as you will enjoy one. :D
