After many years towing tag-along style trailers, I'm on the verge of buying my first Gooseneck equipment trailer. Towing with an 04' F-250, 6.0L. Trailer will be 20' deck with 14K GVWR.

What are some quality gooseneck hitches that will leave the bed clear when not in use, and can be converted for 5th wheel use?

We have what I think is the "turnover ball" from B&W and have been quite happy with it. (Ours is the one where the ball base is 8-sided.) Only issue is it sometimes takes two people to flip it over - one to pull the latch lever, the other to flip the ball. I think that would be one solid choice. Most of the major hitch makers now make something like this. I do like the the turnover ball style because you have the choice of either storing the hitch ball in the bed, upside down (nothing sticking up), or you can take it out and store it in the cab, which is what we usually do.

I vote for the B&W Turn Over which is what I have ... I think they have a very good hitch and it is easy to use. You can also add an attachment for a "5th Wheel" GN hook-up also using the basic hitch mechanicals.

Drawtite makes the same hitch...
Cequent draws upon a 75-year old heritage of superior towing and trailer brands - Draw-Tite, Reese, Fulton, Wesbar, Bulldog, Crown Eclipse, Hidden Hitch, Bargman, ROLA and Tekonsha.

B&W is what I use also and it works great!

I wanted a FULL WIDTH truck bed and a CLEAR SPACE !
So I bought a chassis/cab 1 ton, which BTW gave me a truck with beefier underguts, then added a Hillsboro aluminum platform bed with built in trap door and 30K hitch platform below.
Since then I've added home made board sides, so it looks just like a real Fahm truck (-:

Putnam makes a good hitch also, I have the pull & twist in my Pete.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like B&W. Priced right, easy install, convertible to 5th wheel.

Thanks again.

I've got a B&W Turnover ball and love it. Very wasy to install. I got mine off from Ebay at a good price. A local dealer wanted over $600 for a competing model (non B&W) with it installed I paid half that and installed it myself with no help and it took less than 2 hours.

My wife just had her Hillsboro flatbed put in at Lucky's Trailers and there was a sticker next to the ball at the bottom of the trap door compartment saying the max towing weight supported was 26000 lbs
