Tamara and I have always been dog people, but now and then we end up with a pound cat with such incredible spunk and personality that it, too, becomes a central part of our life. So it was with Microsoft Cat, whom we lost to a fisher three years ago. So it is with Miles, who lays dying on the couch tonight surrounded by goldens who know his time is up. I'll stay up with him till those big green eyes close, till that expressive tail stops twitching, then go select a special place in the family graveyard.

Gawd, it's hard to lose a pet...

Sorry about Miles, Pete. You're right, it's really hard to lose a pet. I know what you mean about spunky; we've got some real characters for barn cats that we've grown fond of.

It is clear that Miles had a better life for having happened upon you. I respect your courage, and share your grief. Take good care, Pete.

Pete...

We adopted a stray cat about ten years ago. I was always a dog lover...never could attach myself to a cat....never thought they had much personality. But, we brought this adopted stray back from the brink of starvation and now I've grown really fond of him. Cats certainly do have personality in their own kind of way. He already is showing his age and vet told us during his annual check-up this past Friday that he may have a possible tumor in his mouth....very difficult to remove. So, we are preparing as you unfortunately are doing now.

My sympathies to you and the goldens...

Bob

Pete, my condolences. Cats are easy to love. Of course dogs are too but usually not for the same reasons.

I'm a firm believer in doing the hurting and appreciating it for what it is. It sounds like you are too. It ain't the sweetest part of a relationship but it is just as important as the joyous parts.

I think all of us would like to go in the presence of those who've loved us enough while we were living to share our experience in dying.

It's good that you love that completely. I'm sure you're at the top of a lot of your friend's lists because of that.

Again, my condolences to you and congradulations to Miles for having such a friend. I'm sure it was earned many times over.

I'm not a cat person, but I can sure relate to loosing a good friend as any pet is. My prayers are out for your family including of course your goldens.

Your going through something I wouldn't wish on anyone. Hang tough. From your past posts I know how much you care for your animals.

Pete,
That is the one thing I dread about my cats, is when the time comes I have to say goodbye. I have seven cats now, and hate the thought of loosing any of them.

Best wishes from me and mine in your time of grief,

Boondox,

Yep, I know how you feel......

We had to put our oldest female to sleep a few weeks ago. Funny how these animals become a part of our lives. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Sorry to hear about your loss. My wife, and I had 3 cats since we were married, and lost them all in about the two years. It was very hard for us to part with them after 17 years. We had to put 2 of them to sleep. That's not an easy thing to do. I can't stand to see an animal suffer. We now have 2 cats , one which my wife brought home after finding it under a mailbox on the street. Poor thing was skinny as a rail. She now weights about 12 pounds. Makes your loss a bit easier, when you see a kitten running around. Kent

Sorry to hear of your impending loss. We went through a spell of bad cat kharma a while back (feline leukemia) and I don't even want to think how I'd feel if one of our 3 died now. My wife and I admt that we are just staff for the cats - but it works out just fine.

Our thoughts are with you.
