Goodbye 40, I\'ll miss you.

It's a bittersweet day, today. Last night we sold our forty acres to my brother-in-law, the same person we bought the ground from. Never would have done it, ever, but a motocross track built directly across the dirt road from us. Never in a million years could I have believed something like that would happen, not as remote and isolated as our place is, but it did.

So, it was either sell it, or put up with lights bright enough to land jet planes by; music so loud, it hurt your ears a 1/4 mile away; beer bottles pitched up and down the road; loud roaring engines; smashed mail box existience. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'll miss my ground... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Man that sounds sad. It just goes to show, nobody is really in control - you could never have predicted or prevented such a thing from happening, sometimes 'stuff' just happens.

I hope you find another 40 acres and have better luck with it!

One of the advantages of living in the country is that you can do whatever you want with your land within legal limits. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Unfortunately, your neighbors can also. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Goodbye 40, I\'ll miss you.

LOL /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif That's one reason I was happy to buy a place that is 3/4 mile from the county road. Yeah, I still don't have enough rock down and if it is really raining it can be pretty hairy getting in and out.

But I'm thinking that helps with adjacent land use issues *some*. There is probably nothing anyone can so short of buying 1000 acres to use 100 to totally insulate themselves from this potential. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

BB_TX

You're completely right. The surrounding land owners met when the track's existance was first hinted at, to see if there was anything legally we could do to stop them. No, not a thing.

So it was either put up with it, or sell and move on. We choose the latter.
