My local tractor supply has had this disk sitting out since mid summer at least. It looks like a family heavy duty disc but has some damage to some of the discs, looks like it will need five replaced. The price has been lowered to $520, does this seem like a good deal with the parts that will need purchased to make it useable? Anyone know what the discs run each? Any experience with this disc?

Thanks for the help!

I don't have any experience with that disc, but that seems like a good price. You can get an idea of the cost of replacement blades at Agri Supply - Search Results for disc harrow blades. I can't judge the size of the blades from the photos, but you should be able to buy five replacement blades for +/- $100.

That looks like a returned 84" Tarter/Kentucky for TSC/Countyline Disc Harrow. I am not wild about wide Disc Harrows with "open" draw pins rather than a stronger double clevis. Open draw pins are characteristic of Tarter discs.

Tarter's web site will not open tonight, or I would post a link.

You need five horsepower per foot of Disc Harrow width plus four wheel drive to pull a seven footer.

Seems like your Ford 961 should pull it fine with 3,300 pounds weight, with or without four wheel drive.

I would make an offer of $300. You are the only person in PA shopping for a Disc Harrow in the snow and the manager will want it off TSC's books before January 1st.

It may be quite a bit of trouble to take apart. An axle may be bent, if so a bigger job to repair.

This Harrow is really the pig in a poke.

I would want to know if it was returned unit or, if not, how the damage occurred. I'd be concerned about buying a disc harrow that was fragile enough to incur that sort of damage in shipment on a pallet.

Or, it could have been dropped from 10 feet up while being unloaded from an 18 wheeler, and I guess you can't hold that against the disc. But that would make me wonder what other damage exists that I couldn't see.

I think they will throw in 5 blades for the asking price. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the replies. Once thanksgiving is over bad things slow down I'll go look it over a little better and make sure there is no other damage, like the bent axle that was mentioned. I'll also talk to someone in the store and see if I can figure out how it was damaged. The thought that it was dropped while being unloaded is a good idea, the way the discs are damaged that might explain it, now just to see what other damage was done.

You wait around and it might get gone!!! If you can get the manager to either throw in 5 discs, or cut the price one more time, it seems like it would be a pretty good deal to me, even if there is more damage to it than just the discs. I think an axle is about $35 or so. What else could be wrong with it??? Maybe a bearing or two needs to be replaced? You are still way under the $1300 sticker price!!! Good luck.

There ya go. It's not going anywhere like it is. Tell them to order the discs and you'll pick it up when they come in, otherwise it will sit all winter and be even more worthless.
