I went out this weekend to do a little mowing and found a snake stuck in a bolt hole in my front axle. There was 31" of snake sticking out of the axle and when I got him out he was 51" total length. It didn't look like he had been dead very long. I wonder if he caught a meal in the axle that made him too fat to back out?

Wow, that is bizarre. Do you know what kind of snake it was? What would you have done if it was still alive?

Was it sticking out from both sides of the axle? My guess is that it got in there and could not back out. Perhaps, it actually cut off blood flow and that's what killed it. It looks like a nice "healthy" ratsnake to me. Very odd!

It was just sticking out the back side of the axle. The head was inside and pointed towards the center of the axle. The strange thing is that I didn't have to pull that hard to get him out?

Just read your snake thread then ran out to the shed for a minute. Following the same path across the grass back to the house and almost stepped on a 3' bull snake. Startled the heck out of me.

Don't mind snakes if I know where they are but hate being surprised by 'em, especially when their still in my head from reading about them.
