Long bar/big rock, wheel barrow! log splitter, mig welder, atv log arch, winch, but I'm dreaming of 4x4 kubota
Good morning as I sip my coffee next to a warm fireplace, gleaming others wisdom over 4 way wedges for log splitters, dragging wood out from my pasture.

My wife tells me I'm not old enough to own a tractor yet (I'm 47 LOL!) so I sip with a healthy envy over you big boys. That's a nice way of saying it's not in the budget-yet:) I occossionally borrow my dads small kubota, and rent a excevator to dig ditch, irrigate a small creek that runs through the middle of our land, move junk, or fix driveway.

I built a 30x36 pole building this past year, which was a thrill to me! 14' walls turned into 13' high walls last year using no paid labor! Uneven ground and diggging a too deep in a place or two captured a foot of head room for the future loft. But for me this was a brave undertaking-and I'm thrilled that I did it! I still have cement work, and wall sheeting to get up, as time and money comes in. But hey-I'm basically dry!

We sit on 5 acres, very wet, but lots of privacy, and trees to enjoy till they break under storm. That's when they help heat the home:) Up till this past year I have litterally carried and wheelbarrowed logs across our swampy land to our home. However, things are looking up: This year I stepped it up and traded up my son's small motorcycle for a 230 kawasaki quad. It's a ballance of equity, size, and play. Thanks to the internet, I have built a atv log arch to drag log sections closer, though traction is always an issue with this cheap 2wd. I additionally built a strange "handtruck" like rig out of 3/4 pipe that I throw over the rear of a log, and it can lift the log so I can roll the far end of the log rather than drag it. ADD and projects have come up.. and I really haven't played enough with those additons, but I'm confident they will help me in the end.

My current project is a project log splitter I bought for what I think is a steal ($300). It has some great components, and was advertized as a project with a clean 9hp GX270 honda engine that needs replacment. (It was exlained that the engine made a terrible squeeling noise, and the builder gave up. The engine started and ran nicely, and hydraulics worked, but it would not build presure, and when it attempted ...squeeled loud noises and lugged. The old owner quickly shut it off as to not want to ruin the engine?

There were some mistakes/overlooks I think I found, but I really loved the heart this guy put into it (and the components:) The engine was much higher than the hydraulic tank causing cavitation. (I"m hoping that's the squeeling noise?) And with the creative cylinder mount did not allow for the pushing mechanism to be "sled" onto anything. split wood ran into the ram guide, and so the ram would get bent if I continued. I will mount it to a heavy Ibeam.

9hp engine, 22gpm nornern pump, 6" hydraulic ram, 14" wheels and good tires, 4"x4" frame. Where the cylinder mounted to a hokie horizontal/vertical mechanism ithat has bars that run it's length and is welded to a flywheel (as the butt that sits on the ground). My goal is to mount it permanently horizontal, with a 4 way moveable wedge at the REAR of the splitter.

I think I'm going to model my splitter after the lime green YOUTUBE "3 mintue homemade splitter." with a couple changes: I think I want to change the direction...pushing the wood to ther rear, rather than have to throw the wood out from beneith the splitter (by my feet) trailer before I can roll away. I addtionally think that "hydraulically pushing the wood out the back" would help not have to move the splitter trailer, or pause to move wood out of the way before I can split more wood. One consideration I'm contemplating is how little I can move the wood in the process. Cut tree, move wood sections, cut into rounds, split log, move wood away from splitter, stack to dry, move to wood shed, move next to house, move inside. Can I move one or two of these efforts? Can I simply "push the wood off the splitter into a cheap lawn trailer or two or three, or can I push it onto a pallet and build something to move pallets??? hmm?? Trying to think ahead.

So I pulled into the driveway with a 17' 12x4 x3/8" thick web I-beam. So my gathered thoughts are coming to a head as I contemplate cutting the lenght with a torch. Thus.. I methotically gather ideas for this classy splitter.

So anyways, as I get up from you clinical black leather sofa..I feel my counceling session is over...and as Forest Gump would say "That's all I have to say about that!"

So from Western Washington-Have a great day!

Good to have you aboard. Eventually you will be able to purchase a tractor and implements. One has to walk before they run. At least that is the way that I have found out the way things in this life generally work. Best wishes.
