Tried to pull the HST filter on my L4060hstc today & failed. 50 hour service so the OEM one was painted on gluing it in place after the Japanese gorilla torqued it on. I have an oil filter wrench, plastic handle with a reinforced rubber strap. But it's not beefy enough or long enough. I can't get nearly enough leverage to pop the filter loose. Any recomendations for a beefy wrench I can put a 1/2" breaker bar on or has enough leverage?

With all due politeness, don't blame the Japanese for manufacturing the machine you chose to buy.

Or for your buying a plastic tool most suited to opening peanut butter jars.

And paint doesn't glue-on a filter.

Use tools made of steel on tractors made of steel.

I believe you have a national shop called NAPA there who will have a proper Oil Filter Wrench. :thumbsup:

I use a wrench like the one below . You can find them in 3/8" drive or 1/2" drive . Use what ever size ratchet you need and a extension in the end and spins them right off .

The one I have is a Cat Brand that I bought at a commercial truck dealer . Pretty Heavy duty .

I have a filter wrench similar to this that works for me. It uses a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar.

PS -- Fred's looks like a heavy-duty version of my strap wrench.

I'll second Fred's strap wrench. It will get them all off but can be (and is) cumbersome to use. I recently got a set of HF 'cup type' filter wrenches (more like sockets) that fit over the end of the filter grabbing on to the flat spots. 4-5 sizes and usually one will fit, a decent "set" for around $10, but I still have a drawer full of various filter "wrenches" and they all get used per different situations, and accessibility.

I'll blame them as much as I blame bubba for the same issue on my F250. :p

And I know the tool I have is insufficient, hence asking for recomendations on a good one. My current one worked fine for my cars & trucks. It's beefy enough for it's size, but I need something with more leverage & the strength to survive that leverage.

I have these and love them. They get the most stubborn filters off though you will likely crush or even puncture them in the process.

TEKTON 5867 16-Inch Oil Filter Pliers - Automotive Oil Filter Pliers - Amazon.com

3 'thumbs up' for the pliers type. The handles are long so you can apply plenty of leverage and, as a bonus (for me, at least) it also fit the cap fitting for my hydraulic filter.

/mine is also "John Deere" badged.
//hey, I saw it at the dealership...
///I needed it!

4 thumbs up for the pliers, tried every wrench I had on the Deere last month, the pliers work.
