Pace car catches fire. Who wants to buy a Chevrolet ???????? Y! SPORTS

The car had batteries in the trunk to run the lights for the pace car where the fire took place. Trunk batteries and strobe lights are not a "GM factory option" on the new SS. This wouldn't stop me from buying a Chevy.

I've never seen an emergency vehicle (cop car, wrecker etc.) have "extra" batteries to run the lights. Are you sure about that?

NASCAR referred all questions about the incident to Chevrolet. In a statement Sunday morning, Chevrolet said the fire was in the trunk area, which contained "a purpose-built auxiliary electrical kit to operate the numerous caution lights during the race."

I don't know the components of a "purpose-built auxiliary electrical kit," but batteries would seem to fit in.

I was held up on my way home from work Friday for this ford truck that caught on fire.

I've owned three P-71 (Police package) Crown Vic's. Never seen extra batteries in the trunk area of them either. Don't know why the Pace cars run this set up. It was mentioned in this article.http://www.sbnation.com/nascar/2014...nascar-pace-car-catches-fire-sprint-unlimited Obviously by the pic, the trunk space is taken up by non factory equipment.

I'm sure most of us remember over 1 million Ford F-150's being recalled for potential fires.... Don't think that stopped them from selling. Ford Recalls F-150 Trucks for Fire-Causing Strap Corrosion - Bloomberg

I'm sure GM stuffed the trunk full of batteries et.al to make a light show..The car probably wasn't equipped with HD alternators etc as a typical emergency vehicle would be..This kind of thing could happen anywhere...You're right though, Fords cruise control burned down a lot of garages...It happens
